Keep the Dream Alive

The Trust for the Public Land is excited to announce a partnership with 19 Entertainment's new property,If I Can Dream, to help raise awareness and funds for the Campaign to Save Cahuenga Peak.

Protecting Cahuenga Peak protects the view of the world famous Hollywood Sign, a symbol of the hopes and dreams of anyone who wishes to make a career in the entertainment industry. As such dreams are the very essence of If I Can Dream, we can't imagine a better partner in our fundraising efforts.

No one is taking down the sign. Just write a check to the Developer Fox River Financial Resources, Inc, Geneva, Illinois -- that's where all the money is going. The developer does not own the land or the sign and it cannot raze the sign. If you donate money believing that the Sign is in danger of demolition, you are being defrauded.

The money is to buy off a developer who bought land near the sign for $1.6 M and we are now paying him $12.5 Million so he won't buy homes near the Sign. It is not even clear that his land is buildable with a 45% grade.

Shame on those who would build on Cahuenga Peak. And for what? Profit? It's best use is to be preserved for all to enjoy.

the hollywood sign is to the westcoast as the statue of liberty is to new york!! anyone that can build on this land should be ashamed!! it just BREAKS MY HEART to know it may no longer make history for the generations to come. it is an historical landmark to anyone with a heart and anyone who loves history. i am only 25y/o and there are sooo many people in my generation that do not know how special it is. i am OBSESSED w/ old hollywood and how much influence its had on the times today. of course destroying it is all about money b/c that is all people care about today...no matter to the history. cahuenga peak and the hollywood sign are of much importance to the wildlife and the people before it that have made it what it stands for today. PLEASE help defend an iconic landmark for the american dream. old hollywood deserves it as for the new hollywood to come!

Wouldn't cost alot less to move the sign over and build a better sign with solar panels so it could light up?

Helena...the Hollywood Sign in itself is not in any danger of destruction. The City of Los Angeles owns the Sign (letters and the land it sets upon). The land in question is immediately to the west of the "H". That is Cahuenga Peak; 138-acres. The Sign itself will not go down; the investment firm/group wants to build luxury homes beside...BESIDE...the Hollywood Sign. Not take it down and build where the sign "used" to be.

Also...if some God-forbid event happen to the sign and you never get to see it in your lifetime...it's not the end of the world. You should not focus on just the Sign itself. Finish your school and try to fulfill your dream...but do not base your dream on 9 white 45-feet high letters that spell HOLLYWOOD.

The Hollywood Sign is an icon to say the least; and it represents Hollywood and Los Angeles and the entertainment industry as a whole and it is also dream-provoking. If you want to become an actress; go for it. Just don't let the physical sign itself be the dream; let the career and the fun that comes with having that career of being an actress be the dream.

Peace,

- Justin

One of my dreams is to move out to LA. It would be so sad if I got there, looked up and saw buildings, buildings and more buildings. It's just a horrible thing to even think about.

45 grade or not, there are bulldozers and support trusses, they want to build on it, they could. I don't want them to and I live in Ohio.

Cody Leigh got me thinking.
Can't the peak be declared a historical landmark?
Or has that been tried already?

Cahuenga Peak

Obviously they are not going to demolish the sign people. The point is to conserve the land and make a recreational park to conserve for the people of California and the U.S. . Whether they raise the money or not they will not tear down the sign. It would be nice if people actually conserved land that is worth conserving. It still has a nice piece of history.
