Looking for a fast and easy way to help us reach our $12.5 million goal? Today's your lucky day. Here's what to do:
1. Remove cell phone from pocket/purse/jacket.
2. Text the word LAND to the number 50555.
3. When prompted, reply with YES to confirm your $5 gift.
4. Give yourself a pat on the back. Seriously.
5. Tell your friends you donated and ask them to do the same.
The fine print: A $5 donation will be added to your mobile bill. Go to mGive.com/A for terms and help.
A valid argument to some extent, but the reality is the developers made a profitable investment. Like all companies/investors, their goal is to generate revenue. We're getting the property at half the value it was listed for in 2008 and the residents of LA will benefit greatly from the open space to be added to Griffith Park.

I wonder why this is not on the national historic site list. How did that happen? I understand that the developers made a profitable investment but at what cost? This is one major thing that makes LA stand out. The beginning of movies and television. It is an icon that MUST be saved! And I live in Georgia! But I understand the historic value of the sign. Hopefully enough people will come together and prevent this from happening.

The sign itself is protected; it's the view of the sign and the 138 acres behind and to the west of it that are under threat of development.

I think this sign is a huge part of HollyWood, and i dont think they should build any houses around it because it would just take away from the sign, there are so many otherplaces to build houses, but for some reason people in this world love to ruin beautiful things for money. They no they will make a lot of money, a lot of poeple would pay a lot of money to have their house that close to the sign. I tried donating, but sadly i live in Canada and am not aloud to vote. I really hope you guys come up with all that money, its a beautiful thing that is going to be turned into a street and polution, and its just wrong.

People this is on top of a mountain why would anyone want a house on very top of a mountain? I say keep the sign and the mountain the way it is. There are people helping the poor , the needy and the sick. There are millions of people and also starts across the land and the world that might be donating to this also. Keep the sign please its a landmark. This is just like they want to destroy mount Rushmore for houses .

I really love this sign and i think it is awful that they are doing such a thing. There will still be a hollywood sign but the land around it? I love it as it is and i don't think it is right what they are doing to it.

So what!!! It's a sign. This is capitalism at it's best. Why destroy a builders chance of supporting his family because he was wise enough to buy the land??? More power to the builder. I hope he is able to build his houses and he profits greatly from it. Too many "granolas" trying to save everything. Go volunteer to feed the homeless. Try to save a human being. Volunteerism and being of service to others does wonders.

The "builder" is actually a very willing seller. They recognize the importance of protecting 138 acres of pristine habitat that includes critical watershed, rare and threatened species, recreational opportunites, and close-to-home nature in a city of concrete. This land will belong to everyone and those helping to protect it are doing a great service to all - humans and non-humans alike.

JUST A SIGN!!!
It's not just a sign. It's a big part of holly wood
Theres plenty more land but hiding this sign! I still say, the land should be left alone to how it was. Don't hide this beautiful sign.
And go volunteer? I do volunteer thanks.

This is yet another example of people forgetting the little things that mean so much. Even a sign. A sign that's been the beacon to so many new actors and actresses. A sign of hope. Hope that they'll make it in their chosen careers. But not only should the sign be saved, the land around it should be preserved as well. Can we not keep ourselves from destroying every piece of land in the name of expansion and 'growth'. Perhaps saving the sign and the land around it can be a sign of hope. Hope that we can learn we must preserve and respect the earth as well as our right to live and prosper. I can only pray.

Dear Kate,
If you think the H Sign is in danger, Save Your Money.
If you want to help buy 138 acres on the ridge to the west and behind the H Sign and add that land to Griffith Park, then go to "contact" and e-mail TPL your question.
It is a good cause, but make certain you know that it has nothing to do with the H Sign; it's 138 acres on another Peak.

when I first moved here, all I wanted to do first was to go and see the sign. Not sure why, but just wanted to see it. Its an icon. When I saw the news saying that they needed money, I gave what I could. Not as much as big buys obviously but I knew I wanted to be part of it.
Now that its been save, I think all the people that donated to this, should have their names written on it at the back. What do you tihnk?

I am not understanding how this is even an issue. A greedy company wants to turn the mountian area for 4 overpriced macmansions? No matter what happends, the company should be blasted for this. The amount of money being rasied could actually do something to help our economy and the people. Yet a greedy enterprise will pocket and smile.
